Countdown to uk’s busiest move date
The most popular moving date is Septemeber 1st according to the Post office home mover database.
Exclusive data from the UK’s largest database of home movers has revealed that the busiest date for moving home is just two weeks away - as the most popular date for UK movers has been revealed as 1st September*.
With most landline providers needing at least a fortnight’s notice to keep connections live, the Post Officeis warning anyone moving during this peak period to notify their utility and landline suppliers as a matter of urgency.
Research shows that although more than one in ten of us (13 per cent) claim that we cannot live without broadband in our new homes, over a quarter (26 per cent) leave it until a week or less before moving to transfer their landline. This means that many movers may find themselves offline and out of touch for a week or two after they move.
As a result of this last minute planning, many home movers are left stressed, argumentative and potentially without vital services in their new home.
In fact, 51 per cent admit to falling out with friends and loved ones during the moving process. Confirming this, 79 per cent of estate agents say they have seen rows and tense moments between home buyers during the buying process
Top tips include:
• Keep an inventory list of each box and its contents – vital for organisation and for insurance purposes
• Give your utility providers, especially your telephone and broadband supplier, one month’s notice of your intention to move
• Organise a box of basic supplies that you will need on the day of the move
